KITT, the talking car that every 1980s child dreamed of one day owning, will be up for sale in an internet action this week.
The souped-up 1983 black Pontiac Trans Am from the TV series Knight Rider is expected to fetch between up to €50,000 when it is sold on auction site eBay.
The sale begins on Friday, with bidders hoping to get their hands on the car driven by Michael Knight – aka David Hasselhoff – once known as the “young loner on a crusade to champion the cause of the innocent, the helpless, the powerless in a world of criminals who operate above the law”.
Hasselhoff, who is currently starring in the West End version of the musical Chicago, teamed up with KITT which was famous for its posh accent, sensible advice and Turbo Boost.
Earlier today, KITT was voted Britain’s second most favourite on-screen vehicle in a Yahoo! Search survey.
It was beaten by the Lotus Esprit from the James Bond classic The Spy Who Loved Me, but trumped the DeLorean from Back To The Future, the Batmobile and the Minis featured in The Italian Job.
KITT – full name, Knight Industry Two Thousand – is on sale as part of a wider auction of showbiz paraphernalia.
Among the other lots are scripts from the Star Trek series and the Rocky films.
Marlon Brando’s dark-blue suit from Guys and Dolls and one of Marilyn Monroe’s slinky dresses from How to Marry a Millionaire, are also up for grabs.
