Survivors of abuse at State and Religious institutions have called for the responsibility for the Child Abuse Commission to be taken away from the Department of Education.
Their calls follow the publication of a report by the Commission, which says the Department has not been constructive in its approach to the inquiry.
In her report Ms Justice Laffoy has said the inquiry has not received the level of co-operation it is entitled to expect from the department.
It also criticises the approach by the religious congregations.
It has led to calls from opposition parties and other groups that the inquiry should be taken away from the education department.
John Kelly from the Survivors of Child Abuse has said: "The two respondents who promised so much co-operation at the very start of this inquiry have done nothing but frustrated Justice Laffoy’s report."
Colm O'Gorman from One In Four said: "It would appear that the only department it could go to would be the department of An Taoiseach."
The calls are echoed by Christine Buckley of Aisling, who has said: "A truly transparent arms length approach needs to be put in place between the commission and the department of education."
