Police in Northern Ireland have found the Mazda 626 they had been seeking in Newry in connection with the murders of two men found bludgeoned to death in deep undergrowth beside a Co Down golf course.
However, they said they still urgently needed to hear from anyone who had seen the vehicle between Sunday night and lunchtime on Wednesday.
Earlier today, police were given an extra 36 hours to question two Lithuanians about the brutal murder of men, who are believed to have died following a row between illegal immigrants.
They were among a group of Lithuanians who had been working on mushroom farms in the Newry and Mayobridge areas of Co Down.
One of the dead has been positively identified as Lithuanian and the other is thought to come from the Baltic state.
The men being questioned were detained yesterday morning following a search of a house at Newry, Co Down, three miles from where the bodies were found outside Warrenpoint earlier in the week.
Detectives were given the extra time to question the men when they made an application at Banbridge Magistrates court in Co Down.
A third person arrested last night has since been released without charge, said the Police Service of Northern Ireland.
A mushroom farmer told PA News: ‘‘There has been some sort of split. It’s a horrific outcome.’’
The man, who did not want to be named, said he had been interviewed by police investigating the murders in a bid to establish their identities.
He said: ‘‘They were just doing the odd job for us. They weren’t working full time. I couldn’t give them (the police) any names. They only ever gave you first names.’’
