Ireland’s airports are handling the summer escape as hundreds of charter flights jet out.

150,000 sun seekers are due to pass through Dublin this weekend alone.

Aer Rianta spokeswoman Siobhan Moore said all three Aer Rianta airports are very busy.

"Shannon is expecting over 35,000 passengers through the airport today and tomorrow, and Cork is expecting 30,000," says Siobhan.

"So it is a very busy weekend. It's very busy in terms of our northern neighbours coming down.

She added: "It's holiday time and they're heading off for their two week holidays. Traditionally these two weeks in July are very busy at Dublin Airport."
