Errigal-Ciaran centre-forward Mark Harte has been named by the Ulster GAA Writers as the winner of the Bass Merit Award for November after helping his club to the final of the AIB Ulster Club Championship.

Harte starred in the long-drawn out quarter-final battle with Crossmaglen Rangers and then was in superb form during the defeat of defending All-Ireland Club champions Ballinderry.

Last Sunday's Ulster final against Enniskillen Gaels wasn't taken into consideration since it was played in December.

"I am really humbled to accept such a prestigious award," said Harte, a 23-year-old final year student at St Mary's College in Belfast.

"With so many great performances by players during last month I never thought that I'd even be in the running for the award but, of course, I'm delighted to be honoured. This puts me up into a league of great players who have been winners in the past."

Harte scored 1-7 in the first match against Crossmaglen and contributed vital points in both replays.

His distribution of the ball in the game with Ballinderry set up his forward colleagues for many of the winning scores.

Today, Mark will be in action with St Mary's College in the semi-finals of the Ryan Cup. The Belfast boys play Maynooth, in Belfast.
