Police divers are returning to a sunken fishing boat in a bid to recover the bodies of three generations of the same family.

Police divers are returning to a sunken fishing boat in a bid to recover the bodies of three generations of the same family.

After weeks of intensive searches the Tullaghmurry Lass was found off the Co Down coast on Friday.

Fisherman Michael Greene, 54, his 32-year-old son and eight-year-old grandson, both also called Michael were all lost.

The Greenes had left their home in Kilkeel on February 14 on a fishing expedition.

Searchers finally came across the wreck after a fishery protection service vessel, the Ken Vickers, located an object on the sea bed seven miles off Kilkeel on Thursday.

Police Sergeant Elvin Leech of the Underwater Search Unit said: "We discovered the wreck which was sitting 42 metres below on the seabed and sitting upright.

"At this stage it is too early to say what was responsible for this tragedy or assess the damage. Visibility is about three to four feet and there is quite a lot of equipment on board the trawler to negotiate."

Sergeant Leech said it was impossible to say if the bodies of the three members of the Greene family were still onboard.

The Sergeant met members of the Green family after making the discovery and said there was great relief that the boat had at last been located.

Alex Slater of the Fishermen's Mission also met the Greene family. He said: "This is what they had been hoping and praying for but the big question is - are the bodies on board?"
