The Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar has said he expects the strike at Aer Lingus and the DAA to be called off.

Members of SIPTU who are due to down tools on the Friday of St Patrick's weekend are meeting today to discuss the planned action.

An expert panel was set up yesterday by the Government in a bid to resolve the pension dispute between staff and management.

Minister Varadkar said he genuinely believed SIPTU did not want industrial action.

"There's nothing we can do to stop them if they're hell-bent on a strike (but) I don't think they are," he said.

"I think what they genuinely want is security so if SIPTU is being genuine and is looking after its members' interests, they will call off the strike after their pensions committee meets."
