Two escape injury in Cork city shooting

Two men had a lucky escape when shots were fired in the Mahon area of Cork city early today.

The Evening Echo reported that the men were walking along St Michael’s Drive at 1.50am when a silver car stopped near them.

The driver of the car fired a number of shots at a car which was parked nearby and then sped off in the direction of Skehard Road.

The two men were not injured and are understood not to have been the intended targets. There was nobody in the parked car at the time of the incident.

The two men who saw the incident reported it to gardaí, who found the silver car burnt out a short time later in The Marina area.

The scenes on St Michael’s Drive and at The Marina were both preserved this morning for examinations on the vehicles.
