Swimmers are being advised to avoid swimming at a popular bathing spot in south Dublin over the coming days.

Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council issued a 'Do Not Swim' advisory for Blackrock Seafront on Monday morning.

In a statement, the council said it is advising the public not to swim in the area following results from a water sample taken on July 10th.

The samples, which test the level of e-coli and intestinal enterococci in the water, returned elevated results following a period of heavy rainfall.

The notice is set to remain in place until Wednesday.
