A leading suicide prevention and bereavement charity is calling for more action to reduce suicide rates.
Console wants the Government to emulate measures taken in Scotland over the last decade, which have resulted in an 18% fall in suicides.
The organisation is holding its annual conference in Dublin today ahead of World Suicide Prevention Day tomorrow, addressing the issue of stigma.
The founder and Chief Executive of Console, Paul Kelly, claims the Scottish approach focuses more on training, targets and commitments.
"It's a very targeted approach … even here in Ireland there are so many organisations out there doing good work - but we have to prevent duplication of services," he said.
"We have to ensure that we're getting value for money, and we also have to ensure that we're strategic - that we're reaching the right areas that need attention."
