A second person has died after a car crash in Co Galway, taking the weekend’s road death toll to six.

A 33-year-old woman, who was a passenger in a car which crashed at Quincentennial Bridge at 8pm last night, died in hospital.

A man was also killed in the two-vehicle collision.

Meanwhile, gardaí in Mayo are continuing to investigate the death of an 84-year-old woman who was hit by a car on Saturday night.

A female cyclist in her 60s died in Co Kildare after she was struck by a van which failed to stop last night, and a 32-year-old motorist was killed in a single-vehicle accident in Co Westmeath yesterday morning.

On Friday night an 84-year-old woman died following a crash in Co Cavan.

A total of 315 people have been killed on Irish roads so far this year.
