The son of the former Taoiseach Charles Haughey refused to comment this afternoon on the findings of the Moriarty Tribunal.

Newly promoted Junior Minister Sean Haughey avoided reporters in his local constituency.

As Mr Haughey arrived at the St Luke’s Social Services Centre in Kilmore West to wish pensioners a happy Christmas, he decided he would not answer questions from waiting journalists, postponed the visit and sped away.

There was no official response from Fianna Fáil to the publication of today's Moriarty report, but there is speculation that the Haugheys' solicitor may issue a statement on the family's behalf later today.

The tribunal concluded that Charles Haughey accepted cash in return for favours during his political career.
