The public are being asked to vote for their favourite astronomy photograph and choose the winner for the 'Reach for the Stars' competition.

The Astrophotography competition is being run by the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS).

Below are a sample of some of the shortlisted entries...

Tánaiste Leo Varadkar launched the public vote with a private visit to DIAS Dunsink Observatory earlier this week.

The competition features entries from around the country, with voters asked to chose their favourite from the 176 shortlisted images.

All images are available to view on the DIAS website, where you can also vote for your favourite photograph.

Voting remains open until 11.59pm on Sunday, May 9th.
