Process for nominating new Taoiseach announced

Government Chief Whip Tom Kitt has tonight announced the process by which a new leader of Fianna Fáil and Taoiseach will be conducted.

Government Chief Whip Tom Kitt has tonight announced the process by which a new leader of Fianna Fáil and Taoiseach will be conducted.

A special meeting of the Fianna Fáil parliamentary party will be held at 9am on Wednesday, April 9, in Leinster House.

Nominations for the position, which will be voted on by Fianna Fáil TDs, will close at 2pm on Saturday, April 5.

Mr Kitt said it is “quite clear” that Tánaiste Brian Cowen will put his name forward.
