Pringle: Máiria Cahill debate will be 'a lot of political point-scoring'

An Independent TD is questioning why a Dáil debate is to be held into the issues raised by Máiria Cahill.

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny agreed to the move yesterday following a request from Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin.

However, Thomas Pringle has said he is not sure the Dáil is the place for such a debate.

He said: "I don't feel it'll serve any purpose in terms of Máiria Cahill's wrong and it being resolved and brought forward.

"For that reason what I think what we'll see is a lot of political point-scoring and I think this case is far too serious to have it minimised in such a way."
