Phil Hogan: Irish Water 'is not a mess'

Ireland’s EU Commissioner Phil Hogan denies that Irish Water is a mess.

Hogan introduced the body for water during his time as Environment Minister.

Speaking at the National Ploughing Championships this morning the Commissioner said that the utility is not a mess and that he was only doing what was required by the Troika.

Phil Hogan says that everywhere he goes there is a demand for more resources for water.

Mr Hogan said: "Well first of all, I don’t agree that it is a mess and secondly I introduced what was required under the Troika, and you'll have to ask the Minister for the Environment Mr Kelly for the rest.

"He is in charge of water and Irish Water are in charge of delivery of a very important product called water.

"I'm European Commissioner for Agriculture, and everywhere I go there is a demand for more resources to be made available to provide more quality and quantity of water."
