Pat Kenny's Newstalk Show Becomes Most Listened On Irish Commercial Radio

Pat Kenny’s audience on Newstalk has surged to a new record high to become the most listened to show on Irish commercial radio.

The latest figures from the Joint National Listenership Research (JNLR) show Mr Kenny has 229,000 listeners for his 9am-noon programme.

The survey for the period April 2023 to the end of March 2024, shows an increase of 13,000 listeners.

The survey shows a fall in listeners for the Oliver Callan Show, which has 330,000 listeners on RTÉ Radio One. This is down 13,000 on the previous survey.

The most popular programme on the station  and across Ireland is Morning Ireland with 469,000 listeners, a year-on-year increase of 32,000.

Today with Claire Byrne holds steady on 341,000 listeners, with Louise Duffy adding 4,000 to reach an audience of 218,000.

Brendan O’Connor’s Saturday audience of 352,000 is up 10,000 since the last survey and 25,000 year-on-year, while on a Sunday, he now has 355,000 listeners, up 12,000 since the last survey and 36,000 year-on-year.

Peter Woods, Head of RTÉ Radio 1 said: “A resilient book for RTÉ Radio 1 with ten out of the top ten most listened to programmes in the country, seventeen out of the top twenty, 671,000 listeners between nine and twelve every weekday and our weekends growing incrementally.

"A tribute as always to our presenters and the hard work of our exceptional production teams and to the enduring support of our listeners.”

On RTÉ 2FM, the Two Johnnies continue to grow with 151,000 listeners, up 1,000 since the last survey and up 21,000 year-on-year.

Breakfast with Doireann, Donncha, and Carl has 143,000 listeners on weekdays, followed by Jennifer Zamparelli, who has 135,000 listeners.

Tracy Clifford’s early afternoon show saw an increase of 8,000 listeners from the last survey, as 121,000 people are tuning in to her show.

Laura Fox's weekend morning show also saw an increase, with 129,000 listeners on Saturdays and 120,000 on Sundays.

Dan Healy, Head of RTÉ Radio Strategy and RTÉ 2FM, said: “2FM continues to increase its audiences with a growing share of 15- to 34-year-olds. This was a great book for Tracy Clifford with strong growth both book-on-book and year-on-year.

£The 2 Johnnies and the breakfast show continue to consolidate recent audience gains. Doireann leaves 2FM Breakfast in great shape, and Laura Fox continues to grow her show across weekends.

"It is great to have an exceptionally talented team both on and off air and I am confident that 2FM will continue to perform well for the rest of the year.”
