The Palestinian ambassador to Ireland, Dr Jilan Wahba Abdalmajid, has said that “any Palestinian on this earth” would reject any plan to displace Palestinians from Gaza.
“This is our land, and no one on earth can uproot us from this land. We belong there and we will remain there. This is me and any Palestinians on this earth. This is the position. No one has the right to decide on behalf of the Palestinians," she said on RTÉ radio’s Morning Ireland.
"No one can decide on behalf of our land. This is our land and we will defend it. We will defend our legitimate rights to be there and to have our own free state of Palestine."
Dr Wahba Abdalmajid said that Gaza was beautiful and the Israeli occupation had destroyed it. Israel had launched a genocidal war in an attempt to kill people and destroy “every single establishment," she said
92 per cent of Gaza was now gone because of the occupation, she said. The problem was not the Palestinians, it was the colonisation. Despite 16 months of “a genocidal war” more than 400,000 people returned to Gaza even though they were not sure if they would find a home.
“But they insist that this is our land and we will not give up our rights for life to be there.”
When asked about President Trump’s comments about how the Palestinian people could move elsewhere, the ambassador responded: “he can say whatever he wants to say.
"But more than 6.5 million Palestinians live in Palestine. If he can just say one thing without realising that those people are human beings and they have rights and they have legitimate rights to be in their homeland, then he can say whatever he wants.”
Dr Wahba Abdalmajid said that people like her family and friends would not leave, even if they had to live in a tent while they rebuilt their home.
Gaza was devastated, but people still wanted a better life, they could not do it by themselves, they needed the international community to support them politically and with humanitarian aid.
This was what had to be talked about, not a “business deal."
