A ninth man arrested in the investigation of Quham Babatunde's fatal stabbing in Dublin has been charged with violent disorder and assaulting the victim's friend.

Mr Babatunde, who was 34 and from Nigeria, died after being injured on Anne Street South in the city centre at around 3 am on February 15th.

It happened after a row started among revellers leaving a Valentine's night music event.

Gardaí found him unresponsive, and he was rushed to St James's Street Hospital, where he passed away a short time later.

David Oloo Omee, 19, of The Lawn, St Marnock's Bay, Dublin 13, was charged on Tuesday with engaging in violent disorder with others at Anne Street South and assault causing harm to Adetola Adetuilehim, a friend of Mr Babatunde.

He was refused bail when he appeared before Judge John O'Leary at Dublin District Court.

Detective Garda Colin Delaney told the court that the teenager and his friends were fighting on the street.

It was alleged, "He punched Adetola Adetuilehim in the face as he held his hands in the air to show he was no threat."

The detective described the assault as completely unprovoked and said that Mr Omee stomped on the man, who was semi-conscious on the ground and suffered a fractured eye socket.

The accused allegedly fled to Dawson Street with others to get a bus and later stayed in a hotel in the city.

The contested bail hearing was told that the incident was captured on CCTV.

The detective agreed with defence solicitor Luke Staines that the accused went to Pearse Street Garda station to be questioned. It was claimed he told gardaí that he stomped on Mr Adetuilehim three or four times on the ground on his chest area.

The detective said Mr Omee's account was that he was "just backing up his mates" and he was sorry.

Detective Garda Delaney alleged the accused had a vital role in the violent disorder incident in which Quham Babatunde lost his life in an unprovoked attack by a group of males.

Mr Staines said his client's mother was in court, and he could live with her and obey conditions. The garda raised concerns about the address offered and said it needed to be confirmed.

Mr Staines said they had been affected by homelessness over recent years, and while they currently had a home, it was not necessarily a permanent home.

Judge O'Leary said the accused had the presumption of innocence but denied the bail application and remanded Mr Omee, who did not address the court, in custody to appear again on April 22nd. Legal aid was granted.

Mr Babatunde had been living in the Ballyogan accommodation centre in south Dublin pending his asylum request process.
