A 31-year old Polish native charged with the murder of a man in Mayo on Monday night has been remanded in custody for two weeks.

Matusz Batuik, with an address at 1 Carrabeg Estate, Swinford, Co Mayo, appeared by video link before Harristown District Court, which is located beside Castlerea Prison in Co Roscommon.

He is charged with the murder of 24-year-old Michael McDonagh at a housing estate in Swinford, Co. Mayo, on Monday night.

The accused spoke briefly, through an interpreter, to confirm his identity.

An application from Sgt. Mark Mahon that Batuik be remanded in custody to appear by video link before Harristown District Court on December 4th was granted by Judge Alan Mitchell.
