Foreign Affairs Minister Micheál Martin said today that stabilising the country's finances is "not rocket science".

Minister Martin also ruled out any sort of a National Government, though he said that a consensus on the Budget would be desirable.

The Foreign Affairs Minister is touring Lurgan today. His trip included a visit to the Kilwilkie estate, thought to be a heartland for many dissident republicans.

He stated that the process of fiscal correction is a very straightforward one, once an assessment of where the spending is and where cuts will have to be made is completed.

He mentioned health, welfare and education, as well as the capital programme as potential areas for cutbacks.
