Man shot dead in Dublin
A man in his 40s has died following an overnight shooting attack in Dublin.
The killing took place at around 10.30pm last night at an apartment in the Larch Hill area of Santry, in north Co. Dublin.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, where his body remains this morning.
It is understood he was shot twice in the head.
The area remains sealed off this morning and a full technical examination will get underway later.
A post mortem on the victim's remains will also be carried out.
"Gardaí are investigating reports of a number of men seen running from the area and would like anyone who was in the Larch Hill area of Santry last night to contact them at Santry Garda Station on 01 666 4000," a Garda statement said.
Local residents reported a party had been going on last night in the apartment block where the shooting took place.
Scenes of crime officers have begun a detailed search of the building.
David Stone, who lives behind the block where the man was shot, said there had been a party in the building before Garda patrol cars and an ambulance sped in to the complex.
“A few things happen around here like cars being stolen,” he said.
“I’m just surprised it didn’t happen sooner.”
He said the night security man at the front gate of the development was often harassed by people getting in.
“He’s been pulled out of that security office a few times, he’s been harassed when he’s sitting in his box,” he added.
“There a lot of rented places here.”
However, homeowner Sinead Slevin said there is very little trouble in the 321 apartment complex.
“It’s a bit of a shock, I don’t think anything prepares you to see so much (police) tape here,” she added.
“There’s a bit of random trouble, like parties. It’s not the thing to expect to happen.”
Four people have died in fatal shootings in Dublin since the start of May.
Earlier this month Liam Kenny, a 53-year-old father-of-four with links to the Continuity IRA, was shot dead at his home in Clondalkin, west Dublin after clashing with local drug dealers.
A few days before that Michael Taylor, 53, from Summerhill in Dublin’s north inner city was shot at Hand’s caravan park in Donabate in a killing linked to a long-running gangland feud.
In another gun attack, 20-year-old Dean Johnson was shot several times and died as he sat in the back of a car in Clondalkin on May 26.
And 19-year-old Paul McCarthy died after suffering a gunshot wound to the head at a house on Inchicore, west Dublin, also in May.
