Gardaí are treating the death as suspicious and are investigating whether the remains belong to a woman who disappeared last month.
Officers said they are keeping an open mind, but one line of inquiry is that the remains belong to 29-year-old Linda Christian who disappeared on June 24.
When last seen, she had been wearing a green bomber jacket and carrying a pink gym bag.
Just last Saturday, gardaí issued a fresh appeal for information on her whereabouts saying her family were very concerned for her welfare.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the discovery of a woman's body in west Dublin yesterday.
It is believed the remains, which were found at Coolmine Woods between Clonsilla and Blanchardstown, had been there for some time.
The find was made by Gardaí searching for a woman who had been reported missing in the area since last month.
The body has yet to be identified and the cause of death determined.
The State Pathologist has carried out a preliminary examination at the scene and a full post mortem is due to take place later today.
