It is thought there has been some progress made in the efforts to free a kidnapped Irish aid worker in Sudan.
Sharon Commins, 32, from Clontarf in Dublin and her Ugandan colleague were abducted from a GOAL compound in the north of Darfur 10 days ago.
According to the Reuters news agency, a Sudanese government minister said today that negotiations with the women's kidnappers are going well and officials have now established regular contact with the two aid workers.
“I think we may have good news soon. People are negotiating with them now,” said state minister for humanitarian affairs Abdel Baqi al-Jailani.
The Sudanese government has said it is giving the kidnappers more time and is committed to finding a peaceful resolution.
Al-Jailani also praised Commins and her colleague.
“The two ladies are in contact with the mission in El Fasher (capital of North Darfur) every day," he said. “They are being very brave and dealing with the situation they are in.”
