Anti-vaccine leaflets dismissing coronavirus as a global conspiracy and an attempt to set up a police state are being dropped door-to-door in Tralee — accompanied by Catholic rosary booklets.

The packages were dropped in their hundreds last weekend in Ballinorig, a settled area on the western side of the town.

Fianna Fáil councillor Johnny Wall was one of those to receive the leaflets on Friday. He fears people may be misled by the messaging, thinking it is coming from the Catholic Church.

The booklets contain instructions on how to say the rosary.

“They are trying to give the impression the Church is behind this. I contacted the Dean of Tralee to inform him and the Church has nothing to do with this,” Cllr Wall said.

“It is a worry. There is a danger religious people would take it the Church is sending these out,” he added.

People were suffering from “cabin fever” and were vulnerable, he said.
