Micheál Martin has ruled out running for the Presidency this year.

Mr Martin said he was focused on his work as Taoiseach, highlighting housing and disability issues as a priority.

A presidential election will take place later in 2025 with the current President, Michael D Higgins, having served the maximum two terms permitted.

Mr Martin said he had made a commitment to people in his Cork South Central constituency that he would represent them for the full Dáil term.

He added: “That’s something I take seriously. Fortunately, the election went well and I’m Taoiseach as well as a TD and that’s a great honour.
