The second Garda whistleblower, John Wilson, told Shannonside Radio that all of the circumstances should have been investigated before Mr Connolly was removed from his post.

"Mr Connolly is a scapegoat in all of this," he said.

"He contacted Sergeant McCabe and he requested to meet Sergeant McCabe urgently.

"He was so concerned for Sergeant McCabe's welfare. The way this has been portrayed it's as if Mr Connolly was threatening Sergeant McCabe.

"Mr Connolly was very, very concerned for Sergeant McCabe, and he relayed to Sergeant McCabe certain concerns that I find very, very, very disturbing."
