Environmentalists are pleased with the government’s new commitment to shut Sellafield.

But, Greenpeace Ireland claim that action must now be taken to stop two armed British vessels returning from Japan with unsafe plutonium.

The first shipment is due to enter the Irish sea in early August of this year.

According to Greenpeace, BNFL has gone back on a commitment it gave at an International Marine Court in Germany.

Britain had previously agreed that it would not transport further shipments until October 2002.
