Face coverings could become mandatory in Northern Ireland from August 20th.

The Stormont Executive says it is planning to bring in new laws so wearing a mask can be made compulsory.

It will first launch a public information campaign to encourage the use of face coverings.

Spas, pools, funfairs and bowling alleys will be allowed to reopen in the North from today.

Spectators will also be allowed at sporting venues, while up to ten people can meet indoors.

An app is launching next week - called Stop Covid NI - which will allow anyone who tests positive to identify people they've been in contact with.

There were eight new cases of Covid-19 confirmed in Northern Ireland yesterday, with no deaths reported for the tenth day in a row.

The total number of cases stands at 5,876, while the death toll remains at 556.

The Stormont Executive have also requested talks with the Irish and British governments to discuss Covid-19 travel restrictions.

Northern Ireland’s Deputy First Minister Ms O’Neill has said: “The position is confusing for people, it is a mess across the island."
