'Danger of creating lost generation,' says Simon Community

The Simon Communities in Ireland have launched a campaign demanding the Government build more social and affordable housing.

In its pre-budget submission, it has said all elements of Ireland's housing sector show signs of being broken.

National Spokesperson, Niamh Randall, has said too many people are being impacted and traumatised by experiences of homelessness.

"What we are seeing is that despite the claims of recovery, we are in very real danger of creating a lost generation," she said.

"Second and third generations of people who are homeless or people who are experiencing housing insecurity, who are just left behind.

"This crisis means that the human and social cost is way too high."
