More than €12 million in Government funding has been given to a new community hub in Creeslough, Co Donegal.

The Department of Rural and Community Development said the project will create a new central hub for community life that will “support the renewal and regeneration of Creeslough”.

It said it will be “transformative for the community and serve as a catalyst for the regeneration of the region”.

In October 2022 four men, three women and three young people, aged between five and 59, died in an explosion at a service station.

The new centre will replace an already-operating community hub on Main Street in the village.

The funding is part of €164 million allocated to 30 regeneration projects around the country.

The investment is being provided under the Rural Regeneration and Development Fund (RRDF) with a particular emphasis on the revitalisation of rural town centres.

Many of the projects have a focus on combating vacancy and dereliction.
