A class of 30 in a Dublin school have been sent home after a student tested positive for Covid-19.

The principal of the South Dublin primary school confirmed the case earlier today on RTÉ's Today with Claire Byrne show.

All students in the class have been sent home as a precautionary measure in line with current public health guidance.

The principal of the school added that the child did not contract the virus in the school.

Almost 500 students attend the school in 18 classes - however only the affected class has been sent home.

The school had reopened last Wednesday, having been closed since mid-March.

Speaking at a post-Cabinet press briefing, Minister for Education Norma Foley said it was not appropriate to comment on individual cases, but said the guidelines were clear regarding the procedures for when a student tests positive.
