Clare County Council votes for full 15% reduction in property tax

Clare County Council has voted to reduce its local property tax by the maximum 15%.

Some 17 councillors who were members of the technical group and Fianna Fáil formed a pact on the issue to vote for the full reduction.

Fine Gael members voted against the motion.

Fine Gael Councillor Joe Cooney told Clare FM the cut would affect the provision of local services.

"We feel cutting the local property tax by 15% is going to affect the delivery of services in the county," he said.

"There's a Budget coming up in the next couple of weeks. I'll be calling on the Government to do something in that Budget to try to put money back into the working people's pocket, which they deserve."
