334 Outbreaks Linked To Private Homes In The Last Week

There were a total of 334 outbreaks of Covid-19 in private homes from December 2nd up until midnight on December 12th, according to the Health Protection Surveillance Centre (HPSC).

That is an increase of 49 compared to the previous week when there were only 288 outbreaks linked to private homes.

For the first time the HPSC has split up private home outbreaks into two separate categories: family outbreaks and general outbreaks.

Regarding family outbreaks there were 328 outbreaks in the past week and in terms of general outbreaks there were six.

Overall, there were 410 outbreaks across the country in various locations which was up by 58 on last week when there were 352 outbreaks identified.

Elsewhere, there were 19 outbreaks in schools and there were 13 outbreaks linked to extended family.

There were nine outbreaks linked to hospitals during this time, four linked to nursing homes and six linked to community outbreaks.

Regarding vulnerable communities there were only two outbreaks in the last week, and they were both in the Irish traveller community.

In terms of the location of outbreaks in workplaces, the HPSC said three outbreaks were linked to manufacturing, two were linked to commercial businesses, one was office based and one was linked to food/beverage production and processing.
