Nicola Coughlan has joined the cast of the upcoming sixth season of Only Murders In The Building.

Coughlan has starred in sitcom Derry Girls, where she played Clare Devlin, and currently plays Penelope Featherington in Netflix blockbuster series Bridgerton.

The Galway native, 39, and Doctor Who actor Tennant, 55, will step into the Disney Plus series alongside Jodie Whittaker, Jim Broadbent, Richard Ayoade, Adrian Lukis and Kathryn Hunter.

The casting announcement was made by the show’s official account and Disney Plus, which shared on social media, “keep calm and update the case file”, alongside the actors’ names and photos.

Tennant is best known for playing the 10th Doctor from 2005 until 2010, returning as the 14th Doctor in 2023.

Other notable screen roles have included Barty Crouch Jr in Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire; Detective Inspector Alec Hardy in Broadchurch; Crowley in Good Omens; and Lord Tony Baddingham in Rivals.

He will be joined by fellow, former Doctor Who and Broadchurch star, Whittaker.

Broadbent is best known for roles in films including Moulin Rouge, Bridget Jones’s Diary and the Paddington series.

Ayoade rose to fame in The IT Crowd, while Lukis appeared in The Bill and Hunter in the Harry Potter films and the Star Wars TV series, Andor.

Only Murders In The Building follows a crime-solving trio, played by Steve Martin, Martin Short and Selena Gomez, who have a podcast about murders committed in their swanky New York City apartment building.

Throughout its previous five seasons, the series has received 49 Emmy nominations, winning seven.

The upcoming season of the US crime comedy, which will be set in London for the first time, will also feature Jamie Demetriou, Jane Horrocks, Anjana Vasan, Derek Jacobi and Lesley Nicol.

Last week, it was announced that Spice Girl Geri Halliwell-Horner and Emmy-winning actor Martin Freeman had also signed up for the show.

The last season featured Oscar-winning actresses Meryl Streep and Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Inside Out star Richard Kind and Emmy-winner Nathan Lane.

It has also previously featured Paul Rudd, Shirley MacLaine, Tina Fey and Renee Zellweger.

The 10-episode, season six will stream on Disney Plus internationally.
