Ibec Calls For Additional €6M In Budget To Aid Business Recovery

Ibec is calling on Government to provide an extra €6 billion for businesses in this year's budget.

It says as current supports are gradually withdrawn, new measures will be needed to help the economy recover in 2021.

Roughly €20 billion has been made available to businesses by Government so far this year.

Ibec says the new supports should be aimed at sectors worst impacted by Covid-19 and and those most exposed to Brexit.

Ibec Chief Economist, Ger Brady, says additional supports are badly needed.

"[The plans should] focus partly on supporting those sectors which will have continuing constraints on them, but also on moving on past Brexit and dealing with other big issues which are also out there.

"The back to work issue, the competitiveness issue around the low carbon transition, around housing and childcare and caring responsibilities - they all still exist."
