Businesses can now claim an extra week on the Covid Restriction Support Scheme (CRSS) to help them reopen.

Announcing the funds today, Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe said up to €5,000 can be claimed by a business to assist with any costs they may incur over the coming weeks as restrictions are eased.

The enhanced payment will be given to firms the week after restrictions are lifted.

The Government is due to decide on how to ease current Level 5 restrictions later this week, before the lockdown ends on December 1st.

The National Public Health Emergency Team (Nphet) will meet today to discuss their recommendations which the Government will then consider.

It is thought a staggered reopening will be adopted, with retailers expected to reopen from next week.

The CRSS was established with the reintroduction of tightened Covid-19 measures after the summer.

The aim of the scheme is to help businesses, who as a direct result of Level 3 or higher, have been forced to temporarily close or have been significantly impacted in operating.

The updated scheme will run until the end of March next year.
