Sporting equipment retailer Decathlon will open a store in Dublin city centre, becoming a tenant in the newly redeveloped Clerys Quarter.

Fifty jobs are set to be created by the store, which will be the retailer's third in the Republic.

In 2020, Decathlon opened its flagship Irish store in Ballymun, followed by a second outlet in Limerick last year.

Decathlon has signed a 30-year lease for the 2,500sqm unit in the iconic Clerys building on O'Connell Street.

Following the closure of Clerys department store in 2015, the building underwent extensive works to become a mixed-use space, containing retail, office and hospitality units.

H&M will also be a tenant in the development, with the store expected to open in March. The new Decathlon store is expected to open its doors in mid-2024.

Last year, high-end retailer Flannels axed plans to open its first store in the Republic there.

The news was welcomed by the city centre's business representative group, Dublin Town, which said Decathlon will provide a further boost to the northside of the city.
