Chambers Ireland has today welcomed the signing of the order to reduce the minimum wage to €7.65 per hour from February 1.

Seán Murphy, Chambers Ireland Deputy Chief Executive said: "The reduced national minimum wage is a very important move that will support the economy’s ongoing reduction in the unit cost of labour and underpin cost-competitiveness.

"It will be particularly welcomed by the hard-pressed tourism and hospitality sector. This could be further enhanced by giving real consideration to abolishing the majority of Registered Employment Agreements and Employment Regulation Orders as they no longer serve any purpose."
