British Police are hunting a man described as one of the country's most prolific conmen.

Mark Acklom is believed to be on the run in Spain, after being released from prison for duping two brothers into paying him £200,000.

Police started investigating the 43-year-old, following claims from his former girlfriend Carolyn Woods that he allegedly scammed her into handing over £850,000.

She says his deception, which included posing as an MI6 agent, was devastating: "In the end I lent him everything that I had, he had an accomplice and he said it had to go through his account to protect his identity.

"I did wish he had actually killed me, that is how I felt."
