Teenagers launch racist tirade aboard Manchester tram

Police have said they are looking for witnesses to an ugly racist rant on board a tram in Manchester today.

Video captured by a fellow passenger, who said she felt frightened during the incident, shows two male teenagers throwing racist slurs and threats at a man who had asked them to stop using bad language.

As the incident escalates, the two teenagers move from the back of the carriage to where the man is standing, and one flicks beer from an open bottle at him.

The man, who up to that point had responded by repeatedly asking the two teenagers what age they were, and saying he had been in the UK longer than them, is provoked into approaching the teens, who quickly leave the tram continuing to shout slurs.

Other passengers ask the man to 'please don't' follow them saying: "It's not worth it."

Manchester police condemned the incident, saying: "This is a disgusting display of abuse which quite frankly has no place in society."

They urged anyone who recognised the teens to come forward.
