Teenagers arrested with 'loaded gun' at Nando's

Seven teenagers have been arrested at a Nando's restaurant after a loaded gun was found in a bag.

The group, all aged between 15 and 19, were taken into custody by West Midlands Police on suspicion of possession of a firearm after an incident at the popular family eatery in Birmingham on Wednesday night.

The force said a fight broke out at the diner in Bishopsgate Street, which is in the city's busy Broad Street entertainment district, when officers tried to search a bag allegedly belonging to a 17-year-old boy.

Following that search, the bag was found to contain a loaded gun and a further six bullets.

Two knives and what police believe to be class B drugs were also found, following searches of the others in the group.

All seven were still in custody on Thursday while the investigation continues.

Detective Chief Inspector Sam Ridding, of West Midlands Police, said: "The penalties for carrying a loaded gun are severe and rightly so.

"We are determined to tackle this type of criminality and put offenders behind bars."
