Shipwrecked Costa Concordia ready for final voyage

The shipwrecked Costa Concordia cruise liner is being prepared for its final voyage.

The stricken ship, rotated by tugboats, is set to be towed from Giglio Island, off the coast of Tuscany in Italy, where it struck a reef and capsized in January 2012, killing 32 people.

The tugs and a dozen other boats will guide it on a journey of about five days to Genoa, the mainland port where the vessel will be scrapped.

A daring engineering operation set the Concordia upright last September in preparation for removal.

After the ship leaves Giglio’s port, another search will be launched for the one victim who was never found.

The Concordia’s captain is on trial for multiple manslaughter, causing the wreck and abandoning ship before all aboard were evacuated.
