A Danish Catholic priest has been suspended after the church discovered he had a five-year-old conviction for child pornography.

The priest was suspended last month but the church did not give a reason at the time.

Reports today said he had confessed to possessing 38 video clips with child pornography and was fined €840 five years ago.

A church spokesman confirmed the priest was suspended because the church “recently learned” about the conviction.

He said the priest returned to his home country, adding the suspension also applies there. He refused to give the priest’s name or nationality.
