Pistorius 'accosted at nightclub'

Oscar Pistorius recently visited a nightclub in South Africa with a cousin and was accosted by a man who aggressively questioned him about his murder trial, the double-amputee runner’s family have said.

Anneliese Burgess, a spokeswoman for the Pistorius family, said an argument ensued and the athlete, who is free on bail, soon left the club.

Ms Burgess said today that Pistorius regrets the decision to go to a “public space” where he drew unwelcome attention.

South African media have reported that the altercation happened in Sandton, an upmarket area of Johannesburg, on Saturday night.

Pistorius says he fatally shot girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in his home on Valentine’s Day last year by mistake, thinking an intruder was about to attack him.

Prosecutors say he intentionally killed Ms Steenkamp after an argument.

Closing arguments will be made at the High Court in Pretoria on August 7 and 8.
