The man who engaged in a battle of words with the Munich gunman has become an online sensation after a video of the exchange went viral.
Thomas Salbey, known as the "Balcony Man", threw an empty beer bottle at the gunman from his fifth-floor flat overlooking the Olympia shopping mall car park after hearing shots on Friday night.
The gunman, 18-year-old German-Iranian Ali Sonboly, turned to look at Mr Salbey after hearing the bottle smash.
He shouted "I am German", to which Mr Salbey replied: "You're a wanker is what you are."
Sonboly then shouted "Stop filming" and Mr Salbey said: "A wanker is what you are. What the f*** are you doing?"
The gunman replied: "Yeah what, I was born here."
Mr Salbey said: "Yeah and what the f*** you think you're doing?"
A video of the exchange, filmed by a neighbour, was posted on social media and quickly circulated.
Mr Salbey now has a "public figure" Facebook page.
Nine people were killed in the attack in the German city last week and 27 others were injured.
