Kayak body found as fiancee charged

A missing kayaker’s body has been found in the Hudson River after his fiancee was charged with killing him during an outing to a scenic island.

The body was found in the water on Saturday near the US Military Academy at West Point and authorities said today it has been identified as that of 46-year-old Vincent Viafore.

He vanished on April 19 near Bannerman Island, 50 miles north of New York City.

His 35-year-old fiancee Angelika Graswald reported he accidentally capsized and she was unable to save him.

Graswald was charged with murder less than two weeks later. Orange County prosecutors say she admitted tampering with his kayak to cause his death.

Graswald’s lawyer has said he is sceptical about the statements the Latvian native allegedly made.
