Liverpool set to sign James Milner on a free transfer

Brendan Rodgers has been criticised for his transfer decisions in the past but, if reports today are correct, he is about to do a very decent piece of business for Liverpool.

The Guardian reports this morning that Liverpool are about to sign James Milner on a free transfer from Manchester City.

The England international is choosing regular first-team football at Anfield ahead of a substitute role at the Etihad.

City had hoped to keep the versatile player and offered him a four year deal at £165,000 a week, but Milner has refused the deal and becomes a free agent on July 1.

Arsenal and Roma are both also interested in the player, but he is thought to favour Liverpool as he wishes to remain in the north west of England.

Liverpool fans have cautiously welcomed the news.
