Fabulous gesture from football club chairman makes one fan’s day

QPR chairman Tony Fernandes has reached out to a fan of the club who has been battling cancer with a remarkably kind gesture.

QPR are having a tough start to the Premier League - they are bottom of the table after eight games and suffered a very unlucky defeat to Liverpool on Sunday.

Fernandes was on Twitter yesterday encouraging fans to keep faith with the the team and sent out a tweet saying, “Stay positive and be happy and smile”.

One fan, Ben Mastrangelo, responded by telling Fernandes that he was certainly happy after “lymphoma good news today”. Mastrangelo has been battling Crohn’s disease, kidney cancer and non-Hodgkin lymphoma and had been told a day earlier he was still in remission - not needing another check-up for six months.

He was stunned when Fernandes replied almost immediately, inviting Mastrangelo to attend QPR’s next match, against Aston Villa, as the chairman’s guest.

Fernandes assured him he was serious and asked for an email address to arrange all the details.

With football often in the news for the wrong reasons, lovely to see such a decent gesture from one of the men at the top.
