Arsenal and United fans hijack Liverpool’s Player of the Year vote

This is not going to end well for Liverpool.

Arsenal and United fans hijack Liverpool’s Player of the Year vote

Liverpool FC may be in for some surprise results at their end of year awards ceremony as Man United and Arsenal fans have undertaken a campaign to swing the results.

In order to cast a vote for the various club awards all that is needed is to enter an email address - there is no verification to check that the voter is in fact a Liverpool supporter.

Gleeful fans of other clubs have picked up on this, and are mobilising a massive online vote.

The recipients of all these new votes? Mario Balotelli for Player of the Year and Lazar Markovic for Young Player of the Year.

Balotelli was a high-profile £16m signing for the club last summer and since he arrived he has generated a lot of headlines, but a paltry three goals.

Markovic also joined Liverpool in the summer. The highly-rated winger has not suffered as much negative press as Balotelli during the season, but has failed to make the hoped-for impact and has also managed just three goals so far for the club.

Liverpool fans better hope the Twitter mob don’t get even more creative.

There is also a Performance of the Year category. A certain 38 second appearance by club captain Steven Gerrard springs to mind.
